Do you have a location or agent in my area? Can I come to your store or office, or can you come to me?

In order to pay the prices we do, we have streamlined our operations and handle everything via our website and pre-paid, insured, Priority Mail shipping. Retail storefronts, and all the expenses involved have to be paid by someone, and that is inevitably the customer.

There are many ways to sell my gold and silver; why should I use the Silver and Gold Exchange?

    There are many reasons!

First, we post the prices we pay on a live price chart so you always know what we you'll receive.

Second, we are the only company we know of that utilizes an independent, impartial, third party testing laboratory to accurately analyze, test, weigh and evaluate your items for a truly unbiased appraisal. We feel this is the best way to ensure that you receive the most money and fairest assessment of your gold and silver.

Third, we NEVER do anything with your items without your OK. We contact you with our offer and if you are not thrilled with the offer, your items will be promptly returned free of charge. We DO NOT automatically send a check and then start a timer, leaving it up to you to return the check in time or risk losing your items! We advise that you never do business with a company that operates in such a manner. There are many more reasons to do business with us. Continue reading or call us at 800-266-9395 to find out more!

I am hesitant about sending off my gold or silver. I've heard horror stories about the "As Seen On TV" guys. How do I know you can be trusted?

Silver and Gold Exchange was founded BECAUSE we witnessed how the public was being taken advantage of by disreputable Jewelers, Pawn Shops, Gold Party Operators, Hotel "Buying Event" sideshows, and worst of all, many "mail in" "as seen on tv" scammers. This is why we started publishing the live price chart and allow everyone access to see what they would be paid.

Also, we are a Better Business Bureau Accredited Business. Please take a moment to check out our company on the BBB website. You will see we have a flawless rating and have NEVER had a complaint of any kind. Compare that to some competitors of ours who have up to HUNDREDS of complaints documented!

With Silver and Gold Exchange, you will also receive a Free Priority Mail Shipping via the USPS. Consider the difference between using the United States Post Office as opposed to Fedex or UPS. When companies used Fedex or UPS, they are in effect avoiding MAIL FRAUD laws because the items are not in the USPS mail stream. Since we utilize our nations postal service, any illegal activity would be a FEDERAL OFFENSE!

We insure all packages to up to $1000! Most of our competitors have a $100 cap on insurance claims! (You can also add your own insurance at the post office when dropping off your package.)

Finally... We will send you an email with an offer as soon as your items are evaluated. We DO NOT mail a check and start a timer, putting the burden on you to return the check within a number of days or have your gold or silver melted and lost forever. We do not do anything without your approval. If you are not thrilled with our offer, we return your items, insured, at no expense to you, so there is NEVER any risk.

I have a __ piece set of ______ sterling silver. How much is it worth?

The value is based on the silver content and weight. Since there is such a wide range of weights for forks, spoons, etc there is no way we can estimate a price without knowing the weight.

  5. Rating: +0

What about gemstones? Do you buy them? Do I need to remove them first? Are they worth anything?

Sadly, the secret jewelers don't want you to know is that most stones have ZERO resale value. Larger diamonds (over one carat and high quality) have some value, but our buyers do not buy them. The price anyone will offer for them will be sure to disappoint you.

That said... our buyers do not pay for stones. We estimate the weight of large stones and deduct that from the total weight of the piece to determine the price you will receive. You are welcome to remove stones before you send them to us, but its not necessary.

When someone sells precious metals, either to you or a bank, do they need an identification number for tax purposes? Whom do you contact to get the forms in order to get this number? Does this number need to be stamped on the precious metal(s) - i.e. a brick or bar of gold?

    Hi,
We do not require any tax information, nor do we report any transactions to the IRS. That would be solely between you, the IRS and your accountant.

    Hello,

We would be happy to buy from the UK, but our shipping label is only good for within the USA, so you would need to ship the items yourself. The prices shown are in USD.

I had some old coins stolen but cannot remember much information about one of them. It was very rough. dull ,block style letter .999 silver and bank name cant remember the bank name but i think it was out of london. Its was given to me 35 years ago other then that i dont know how old it is. Can you give me a place to start ?

Since it is marked .999 it is most likely pure silver bullion. The value would depend on the weight... most likely it is one troy ounce.

I have a "bucket" of silver that I bought in 1982. It contains silver coins that say 999 fine silver one ounce troy. It has never been open but we were all given a sample coin and that is all I really know about it. I realize this is a very vague question but is there any way to approximate it's value and is it something you would be interested in?

Opening the bucket would not affect the value at all, so I suggest you do so and count the number of "coins" (bullion rounds). You can then either contact us or refer to our live price chart.

I have a large quantity of silver coins. I am looking to sell approx $6,00 worth of them. I have approx 2,000 silver 1/2 dollars, approx 200 silver dollars, and way to many silver dimes (including mercury ones). these weigh a ton. Is there any special mailing vessel that i should use?

We recommend dividing up the coins into parcels worth $1000 or less (for insurance coverage purposes). Then, pack the coins into a USPS Medium Flat Rate Box and pack that box inside a USPS Large Flat Rate Box. Use PLENTY of tape and packing materials. The post office will provide you with these boxes for free.
